A second day of more than 2 000 new Covid-19 cases in SA Updated

South Africa has recorded 2 149 new Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours leading to Thursday evening.

This is the second consecutive days in months that the country breached the 2 000 mark when it comes to new infections.
In his latest statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the country also recorded 63 more Covid-19 related deaths.
The Free State showed the most fatalities with a total of 21.
That’s followed by Gauteng, with 17 new related deaths, there were 6 in the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, the Northern and Eastern Cape provinces each showed 5 new fatalities and there were three in Mpumalanga.
Amid rising cases of COVID-19, the Odisha government has requested the Centre to provide at least 1.5 million Covishield doses as soon as possible to continue the vaccination drive uninterrupted in the state, informed State Health Secretary, Pradipta Mohapatra. He stated that round 97 per cent Health Care Workers in Odisha have received the first dose of COVID vaccine and 85 per cent beneficiaries under this category have received the second dose. Similarly 97 per cent frontline workers have received the first dose and 85 per cent beneficiaries have received the second dose. The State Government has urge Union Health Ministry to supply at least 15 lakh Covishield doses as soon as possible so that beneficiaries due for second dose of the Vaccination will not miss their Dose
