JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Visitors in the Jamestown Public School District along with students and staff will be “strongly encouraged” to wear masks inside Jamestown Public School buildings starting May 17th.
Jamestown Public School Superintendent Dr. Rob Lech says to this point, the board and officials have taken great care since the pandemic began to keep the students and staff safe.
With that, Dr. Lech says it was up to the school board to decide the next steps in their Health & Safety Plan. He provided a list of choices the school board could make, adding that any decision they made would be polarizing.

The Academic & Extra-Curricular Committee of the Indiana Area School Board is scheduled to meet tonight and among the wide-ranging agenda items is a review of the district’s Health & Safety Plan, which is good timing coming in the wake of Friday’s cancellation of all extracurricular activities over the weekend because of covid-19.
The district is currently using all remote education on Fridays, so maintenance staff had a chance to give the buildings a through cleansing over the weekend.
Friday’s decision at Indiana came as Indiana Area and several others Indiana County school districts concluded a week that saw an uptick in covid-19 restrictions. Penns Manor, Purchase Line, and United all reported new cases during the week, and Purchase Line reported two more cases yesterday. Two years ago, three of us were among 21 N.M. physicians from seven counties who signed an op-ed in the Albuquerque Journal. Our goal? To highlight how the N.M. Health Security Plan could alleviate the state’s chronic shortage of medical providers. Now evidence for that has arrived, just as a bill to start designing that plan, HB 203, is working its way through the Legislature.
A very recent national inquiry of health care providers – mostly physicians – showed 74 out of 92 who replied would move or consider moving to New Mexico, if we implement a universal health coverage system. Positive responders included doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists and counselors. The poll, done by Physicians for a National Health Program, contacted about 1,000 of its members.
