PSNI and Garda officers were out in force at the border near Newry yesterday to keep an eye on a cross-border anti-lockdown motorcade.
An anonymous poster circulating on social media had called for motorists to take part in a Car Convoy from Dublin Airport to Newry and back to the GPO in Dublin s O Connell Street. Come and be part of history, the poster urged. Get the tank full and take a Sunday Spin like no other. North and South come together for freedom.
A social media video showed a tailback of cars at a roundabout outside Newry.
In another video clip, an unidentified male voice says: We re been up the North and we re after having about 30 armed police surrounding us. They brought us into a car park and tried to get all our names.
POLICE in the Fermanagh and Omagh District have taken Covid-19 enforcement action a total of 342 times from March, 2020 to midnight on Sunday, January 3, 2021. The stats are issued weekly by the PSNI, and are broken down into the following types of enforcement. COV1 Penalty Notices; COV2 Commercial or Private Prohibition Notices issued to licensed premises or for restriction of gatherings in a private dwelling; COV3 Failure to Isolate; COV4 Penalty Notices (COV4 now replaces COV1, with fines starting at £200); COV5 Penalty Notice issued to a business and/or premises for breach of the regulations (starting at £1,000, to a max of £10,000); and Community Resolution Notices (CRNs).

Party-goers hit with hefty fine for Covid breach
HEFTY fines, two prohibition notices and a warning from police was how a house party in Newtownstewart in Saturday night ended, after officers caught a number of people breaching Covid-19 regulations.
After receiving a report of a house party taking place in the Mourne Park, police visited the property and issued ‘a number of COV4 fines of £200, and two COV2 prohibition notices’ to the individuals inside.
A COV4 penalty notice sees fines starting at £200, while a COV2 private prohibition notice is issued to licensed premises or for restriction of gatherings in a private dwelling.
