The hospital noticed the unusual activity on Saturday and shut it down.
A user took advantage of the vulnerability in the Epic scheduling tool and shared an unauthorized scheduling pathway publicly, the hospital said.
The hospital is canceling all the appointments that were made using that pathway.
“These appointments violate the ethical distribution framework Beaumont created based upon the State of Michigan’s mandatory vaccine guidelines. We regret 2,700 people in our community became victims of this unfortunate incident. We remain committed to vaccinating as many people as possible who meet the State’s guidelines,” Beaumont Health Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer Hans Keil said. “We are also notifying the Michigan Hospital Association and other Michigan health systems about the issue.”

Beaumont Health is canceling thousands of unauthorized COVID-19 vaccination appointments after someone found a way to hack into the hospital s scheduling system and shared it publicly.
The breach allowed 2,700 people to register for an unauthorized vaccine appointment.
Lynchburg-area health care providers are laying out plans to begin distributing COVID-19 vaccines to front-line essential workers and anyone age 65 and older as state health officials look to ramp up the slow-moving rollout.
The Central Virginia Health District, which includes Lynchburg and the neighboring counties, has not yet moved into the next phase of the stateâs vaccine distribution plan as some regions in the state did this week. Local officials are still working to vaccinate health care workers and nursing home residents, who have been prioritized for the new vaccine.
But Gov. Ralph Northam has said the entire commonwealth will move to whatâs known as Phase 1b of the vaccine delivery by the end of the month, prompting local health care providers to draw up plans for mass vaccinations.
