Shealey offered a quick ‘thumbs up’ Tuesday while getting his vaccine. “I feel great after taking the vaccine and I’m proud to aid in the fight against the virus,” Shealey said in a release from the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs (ADVA). ADVA commissioner Kent Davis was happy to see the state’s veterans homes getting the vaccine after being some of the hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. “We are very pleased with the planning and preparation that went into rolling out the vaccine today for our residents and staff at the Bill Nichols State Veterans Home,” Davis said in a release. “Our staff and the pharmacy team did an outstanding job administering the vaccine and we’re on track to complete the first round of vaccinations for all four homes by Jan. 11.”

Alabama’s four state Veterans home are expected to get the first round of the COVID vaccine beginning this week, according to the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs. On that list is Huntsville’s own, Floyd E. ‘Tut’ Fann State Veterans Home. Residents and staff at Tut Fann are expecting to receive the Pfizer vaccine on Dec. 31st. Now, the vaccine is headed their way. “For several weeks our health care team has worked with the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) in scheduling the vaccinations for our veteran-residents and staff. Our medical staff at the state veterans homes is prepared to administer the first and subsequent rounds of the vaccine beginning tomorrow,” said Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Kent Davis.
