ACT’s Digital Health Record fast-tracked to help deliver COVID-19 vaccinations
The ACT Government’s investment in a new Digital Health Record is already making a difference on the frontline, helping to manage the COVID-19 vaccination rollout.
In the 2018‑19 Budget, the ACT Government committed $151 million to the Digital Health Record project, including a $106 million capital investment. In July 2020, global software company Epic was announced as the ACT Government’s partner in this project.
Epic’s world-leading software will be rolled out across Canberra’s public health services, including hospitals, community health centres, nurse-led walk-in centres and our new walk-in health centres.

Improving care for cancer patients at Canberra Hospital
More Canberra Hospital cancer inpatients will receive treatment in completely refurbished surroundings following the opening of the second stage of the hospital’s cancer ward upgrades.
ACT Minister for Health Rachel Stephen-Smith opened Ward 14B today, providing an updated patient and family friendly ward for our oncology patients – part of our major program of infrastructure works across the Canberra Hospital campus.
“The refurbished ward adds to our modernised cancer precinct at Canberra Hospital, including the treatment and consultation spaces at the Canberra Region Cancer Centre” Minister Stephen‑Smith said.
“Our dedicated health care workers are looking forward to caring for their patients in a new environment that will make a patient’s stay in the ward as pleasant as possible under very difficult and life challenging circumstances.

Pacific Suites Hotel
ACT Health officials in charge of quarantining returning Canberrans from overseas are taking no risk with public health.
Eight passengers from a repatriation flight that arrived on March 2 will remain locked away inside the Pacific Suites Hotel for longer than the practice of 14 days for quarantine.
While the other 138 travellers from Singapore were cleared to return home after all tested negative before their hotel exit on Tuesday (March 16), ACT Health have confirmed three of the residents free of the virus could be a possible risk to the Canberra community.
Five persons were found to carry COVID-19 after a young male, who was a close contact to the previous infection off the flight to Canberra, was the last to test positive for the virus.
