The shut lane is the outer pedestrian cantilever lane, currently being used as an additional lane while resurfacing works on the Tamar Bridge are undertaken. The incident has led to slow traffic with congestion westbound for traffic leaving Plymouth reported being as far back as St Budeaux Junction. Traffic reporting service Inrix says: One lane blocked and very slow traffic due to police incident on A38 Westbound on Tamar Bridge.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) were called out to the scene which is not far from Whitsand Bay Golf Course at around 1.40pm on Wednesday (March 3) after receiving reports of an outbuilding being alight. A major incident was soon declared and road closures put in place near the site as several crews from CFRS along with some from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the flames.
