Credit Arkansas House A bill that would eliminate some exemptions of a work requirement in order to receive supplemental nutrition assistance has advanced to the House, after a committee approved it Thursday. The House Public Health, Welfare and Labor Committee by a voice vote advanced House Bill 1512 which removes no-good-cause exemptions to a work requirement for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, also called food stamps. According to the Arkansas Department of Human Services, those between the ages of 18 to 49 and who have no dependents, or other qualifying exemptions, can be subject to the Abled Body and Without Dependants (ABAWD) work requirement in order to receive their SNAP benefits.

Arkansas couple plead not guilty after toddler test positive for meth

Ryan Eberley and Alexandra Neel appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court on Thursday and entered not guilty pleas to charges related to their toddler son testing positive for methamphetamine. Eberley and Neel, both 27, face charges of introducing a controlled substance into the body of another and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. The Introduction of a controlled substance into the body of another charge is a Class Y felony punishable by 10-40 years or life in prison. Following their arrests, they were taken to the Baxter County Jail and held in lieu of $50,000 bonds. Both informed Circuit Court Judge John Putman that they would be seeking the services of the public defender. Both also have a previous conviction in Baxter County for methamphetamine possession, according to court records.
