LITTLE ROCK, Ark. The COVID-19 vaccine is widely available across the state, but not everyone can get it.
This is why the Arkansas Department of Health and pharmacies are coming together to give shots to the homebound.
Dr. Jennifer Dillaha with the department of health said they started reaching out to this population about three weeks ago. It needed to happen. They ve been on our radar screen from the very beginning, she said.
Not everyone can get in their car and drive over to a vaccination site, so Dillaha said the health department and local pharmacies are bringing the shots to them.

Health officials trying to keep Covid-19 vaccine doses from going to waste
Health officials are working to make sure more of the vital vaccines don’t go to waste and many clinics and pharmacies are offering walk-in appointments. Author: Micah Wilson Updated: 7:08 PM CDT April 8, 2021
LOWELL, Ark. The Arkansas Department of Health is reporting a total of 1,900 wasted Covid-19 vaccine from December 14, 2020, to March 31, 2021. However, during that same time, the state administered a total of 1,142,892 doses.
The majority of the wasted doses are from vaccines not being administered.
Many clinics and pharmacies are continuing to see a decline in Covid-19 vaccine appointments. This is now prompting the question, is the vaccine supply outweighing the demand?
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. â Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson says the state will begin the second phase of the COVID-19 vaccinations starting next Monday. But less than 40% of the stateâs current vaccine supply has been administered. Some Arkansas health officials say the vaccination rollout plan has already proven not to work.
âAs these vaccines flow into the state we need to make sure that we are fast getting them into peopleâs arms as possible,â Dr. Joe Thompson, CEO and president of the Arkansas Center for Health Improvement, said. He said he doesnât believe the vaccines are getting into nursing homes as fast as they should.
