Author: Chris McCrory (WWL) Updated: 5:14 PM CDT March 15, 2021 NEW ORLEANS A Southern University student who went missing under suspicious circumstances and was later found dead in Lake Pontchartrain appears to have died of a gunshot wound, according to the Orleans Parish Coroner s Office.  21-year-old Marquise Jones body was pulled from Lake Pontchartrain Thursday, weeks after he went missing.  Jones’ family said he was last seen on Feb. 26 when he dropped food off at his mother’s home in Slidell. Friends said he went to a house party that night in New Orleans and left around 11:30 p.m., presumably to head back to Slidell.

Updated: 10:56 AM CST March 3, 2021 NEW ORLEANS Authorities say two people are dead following a shooting and separate stabbing in New Orleans Wednesday morning. According to the New Orleans Police Department, the first shooting was reported around 6:22 a.m. in the 2200 block of North Claiborne Avenue near Elysian Fields Avenue. Officers arriving at the scene found a man lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics later pronounced the man dead at the scene. Around 8:24 a.m., police responded to reports of a stabbing in the 1200 block of Desire Street. Officers found a woman with a stab wound who was pronounced dead at the scene. The NOPD has not released any additional details about the stabbing at this time.

Updated: 7:17 AM CST March 1, 2021 NEW ORLEANS A man was pronounced dead at the scene of a New Orleans East shooting early Monday morning, a police spokesperson said. A 9-1-1 call reported shots fired in New Orleans East at 5:37 a.m., the spokesperson said. Officers with NOPD s Seventh District were sent to respond to the call in the 6800 block of Mayo Boulevard, but when they got there they found the man lying in the street. NOPD spokesman Gary S. Scheets said the man had an undetermined number of gunshot wounds. The victim died at the scene, Scheets said. No further information is currently available.
