NEW ORLEANS A motorist died Friday night, and police said he was killed by a driver who left the scene of the New Orleans East accident without calling for help.
A good Samaritan flagged down a police officer near Hayne Boulevard and Unity Drive around 10 p.m. Friday, telling them about the crash, a police spokesperson said.
New Orleans Police Department statements from Saturday morning said the victim was declared dead at the scene. NOPD spokespersons didn t share the victim s name or age but said he was male.
After looking at evidence at the scene of the fatal auto collision, NOPD investigators came to the conclusion that the collision was a hit & run.

Man struck, killed by 18-wheeler on I-10 early Friday

NEW ORLEANS A man was struck and killed by an 18-wheel truck as he attempted to cross I-10 after being involved in another accident moments before, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
The crash occurred around 2 a.m. in the eastbound lane of I-10 between the Bullard Avenue and I-510 exits.
Traffic was temporarily halted during the investigation.
Police said the initial investigation indicated the victim, who is not being identified pending family notification, was involved in a two-car crash in the west bound lanes of I-10. Police said he got out of his car and crossed over the wall between the east and west bound lanes.

NEW ORLEANS Two people died in two New Orleans East shootings Friday night and Saturday morning, statements from police said.
Police officers were sent to the Little Woods area after someone reported gunfire near Dinkins and Meyn streets around 11:14 p.m. Friday, in the neighborhood between Lake Castle Private School and Robert Russa Monton Charter School.
When they arrived, officers found two men wounded by gunfire. The two victims were rushed to a hospital for treatment, but one of the victims died, a statement from the New Orleans Police Department s Public Affairs Division said.
