One of five people shot over the weekend on Bourbon Street in the heart of New Orleans French Quarter was identified on Monday as one of two suspects in a gunfight that sparked panic in the popular tourist destination, police said.
(NEW YORK) One of five people shot over the weekend on Bourbon Street in the heart of New Orleans’ French Quarter was identified on Monday as one of two suspects in a gunfight that sparked panic in the popular tourist destination, police said.
New Orleans Police Chief Shaun Ferguson made the announcement at a news conference Monday in which he called an eruption of weekend gun violence “very disturbing, very alarming.”
He said police are searching for a second man suspected of being involved in the shooting. He released a grainy security camera image of the suspect and asked anyone with information about his identity to contact the police immediately.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans Police Chief Shaun Ferguson says despite a significant increase in homicides and caseloads this year, detectives have remained strong.
The police chief says there have been 77 homicides so far this year compared to 58 at the same time last year.
He also says detectives have solved 57 percent of those homicides compared to 35 percent in 2020. The chief expressed concern that those committing violent crimes in the city have no regard for authority and believe there are no consequences to their actions. Another concern of his is an increase in domestic violence this year.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans officials will be addressing recent violent crime arrests in a press conference Thursday evening.
New Orleans Police Chief Shaun Ferguson and Mayor LaToya Cantrell will hold the conference at 4:30 p.m.
They are expected to address arrests for recent armed robberies, illegal firearms, and violent crimes.
