A teacher is on administrative leave in Sacramento after making racist gestures during a virtual Zoom class.
Nicole Burkett is a Spanish teacher at Grant Union High School. Yesterday, she was suspended for slanting her eyes, explaining how to distinguish different types of Asian-Americans. She says if eyes slant upward they re Chinese, downward they re Japanese, and she doesn t know if they are slanted straight back. The scene was captured through photos by one of her students. The Twin Rivers Unified School Board calls Burkett s actions derogatory and racist. Investigations are underway to determine if further punishment will be necessary.
