Four More COVID Deaths in Oregon Prisons

Since Saturday Jan. 16th, five inmates in Oregon prisons have died with COVID-19 as the suspected cause. Four were from Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla, while the fifth was from Deer Ridge in Madras. The inmate death toll in the Oregon Department of corrections stands at 33.
The Oregon Department of Corrections disclosed that all of the inmates, who were between 55 and 85 years of age, died in local hospitals. The ODC does not release any information that could be used to identify people who die from the coronavirus.
Since the pandemic began, at least 32 people have died in custody of Oregon prisons, with no less than 10 of the deaths happening this month.

Three of the inmates were at the Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla. The fourth was an inmates at Deer Ridge in Madras.
The Oregon Department of Corrections doesn’t release identifying information about those who die from COVID-19.
But the agency did say all four died at local hospitals and were between 55 and 85 years old.
Oregon has struggled with how to address COVID-19 in its prisons. So far at least 32 people in custody have died from the disease since the pandemic began last spring. At least 10 of those deaths have been this month.
Three inmates who tested positive for COVID-19 in the ongoing outbreak at Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla died over the weekend, according to press releases from the Oregon Department of Corrections, bringing the death toll among adults in custody at the prison to seven since January began.
The first two inmates who died over the weekend were between 75 to 85 years old and died on Saturday, Jan. 16, the press releases said. The third was between 55 and 65 and died on Sunday, Jan. 17. Each died at a local hospital.
A few days earlier, the deaths of two other TRCI inmates with COVID-19 were announced. One is a man between 70 and 80 years old who passed away at a local hospital on Sunday, Jan. 10, according to a press release from ODOC. The second who died after testing positive was a man between 65 and 75 years old. He died at a local hospital on Thursday, Jan. 14.
