NEWPORT NEWS, Va. â Cutting-edge technology offered at Riverside Regional Medical Center is a game changer for surgeons performing serious and complicated procedures on the spine.
âItâs an incremental step forward, but itâs definitely something thatâs relatively new to spinal surgery,â said Riverside neurosurgeon Jackson Salvant, M.D.
The device is known as the Mazor X.
âPeople who have lower back pain, either from degeneration of the joints and discs, neck pain from the same conditions, also people who have spinal injuries, or have tumors that affect the spine, all of those conditions would lend themselves very well to utilizing this technique,â Salvant said.

NEWPORT NEWS. Va. â Dr. Richard Sweeney is helping to bridge the gap in racial and ethnic disparities in dental care.
Heâs serving underinsured patients in underserved neighborhoods at Riverside Primary Care Community Clinic in Newport News as the regionâs first dentist to practice as part of a healthcare system.
The community clinic is part of Riverside Medical Group.
âIn this clinic, we recognize the disparities in the community - especially in the south side of the Peninsula - of how many people do not have access to dental care just based on the sheer volume of patients that come into the free clinic,â said Sweeney.
