Centrica has launched a UK-wide heat pump project to drive down social housing emissions and help customers save on their energy bills.
The plan is to replace existing heating systems in nearly 600 homes across the North, North West, Midlands, East and South West with low carbon alternatives by the end of October.
Each property will be fitted with an air source heat pump, complete with a smart cylinder, intelligent heating control, new radiators, and pipework.

In its present form, the European Commission’s draft Taxonomy for Sustainable Activities practically excludes mortgages on the most energy efficient buildings in many countries and it is based on an unfair system which will stymie green bond issuance.
In November last year the EC said it would only consider mortgages with an Energy Performance Certificate rating of ‘A’ as eligible for its Taxonomy.
This decision met with a howl of derision from the covered bond market as it would have reduced the amount of energy-efficient mortgage collateral compliant with the Taxonomy, severely hitting green senior unsecured, covered bonds and RMBS issuance. At the time market participants said it would kill the FIG green bond market.
For sale sign outside new build houses and flats. LANDLORDS who rent out homes which break energy efficiency rules could face fines of up to £5,000 as regulations begin to be enforced. Bury Council says it has identified an initial 326 private rented properties in the borough that are not compliant with the regulations, as they have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of F or G. Such a rating could leave homes vulnerable to damp and fuel inefficiency with tenants facing higher fuel bills and risks to health. The council’s cabinet have backed plans for more enforcement of the regulations including fines of up to £5,000 for the owner of each property which does not comply with the regulations.
The Government has set a target of installing 600,000 heat pumps each year by 2028, replacing gas boiler but the pumps require larger radiators or underfloor heating to reach same heat levels.
