Cllr Julie McManus in front of the Rock Ferry development Wirral Council says it is one-step closer to buying a number of new-build homes which it plans to develop into rental properties for residents most in need of housing. Following the unanimous agreement at the Housing Committee on Wednesday, March 10, the purchase of the units at the Sevenoaks site in Rock Ferry will help the council provide more housing, as well as the need for more social housing and housing with specialist adaptations. Cllr Julie McManus, Chair of the Housing Committee at Wirral Council, said: “Over the last year, we have all really learnt the value of our homes and now even more so it is so important that the most vulnerable of our community have access to a home when they need it the most.

Fire Safety Bill returns to the Lords

The Fire Safety Bill returned to the Lords for consideration of Commons amendments in ‘ping pong’, on Wednesday 17 March.
Members asked the government to think again on banning costs of remedial building works for leaseholders and tenants. Regular inspections of doorways and lifts also came under the spotlight.
There was one division (vote) on a motion to add four changes to the bill. This sought to prevent building owners and lessors from passing on the costs of any remedial work required under a Fire Safety Order onto leaseholders or tenants.

According to latest figures, the Northern Ireland Housing Market recorded its busiest quarter since the height of the property boom in 2007.
The data from The Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) revealed a total of 7,401 residential properties were sold in the last three months of 2020.
With more people spending time indoors, it’s speculated that the lockdown period has had more people itching to move to bigger and greener spaces.
David Blevings, Ireland manager for OFTEC, the trade association for the liquid fuel industry, has this advice for home buyers to consider when making the move:

The market for homes has slowed further with lockdown, and more in Scotland than other parts of the UK.
The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) is reporting that interest from potential buyers was down in February.
The number of properties being put on the market was also down, for the fourth consecutive month.
More surveyors reported prices rising than falling.
RICS expects the easing of Covid restrictions in coming months to bring more activity back.
