Jim Krumel: What s love got to do with it? Plenty

Jim Krumel: What’s love got to do with it? Plenty Jim Krumel If you’ve been married more than seven years, congratulations. You’ve beaten the odds. That’s the average length of a first marriage in the United States, according to statistics that popped up on the ol’ computer from LawInfo.com, a Web site that’s full of information regarding the state of marriage today. And did you notice? It’s talking “first marriage.” More than half of today’s marriages end in divorce, the Web site said. Most people do give wedded life a second chance, but even then, the road to happiness is sprinkled with potholes. Second-timers stay married only 40 percent of the time. For those who give it a third shot, only 27% avoid strike three.

Trial for alleged child rapist moved to October

Trial for alleged child rapist moved to October Steffes LIMA The trial for a Lima man facing 62 sex-related charges that led to the ouster of the former head of the Allen County Children Services agency has been pushed back to October. Scott Steffes was scheduled to stand trial last week on charges that include two counts of rape, 25 counts of unlawful sexual contact with a minor, 28 counts of sexual battery, six counts of felonious assault and a single count of tampering with evidence. In a motion filed, May 11 Steffes’ attorney, Kirk McVay, requested his client’s scheduled trial date be set aside because “the parties have engaged in meaningful plea negotiations but important issues thereto still need to be decided. A continuance of this matter would serve the interests of fairness and justice in the case.”

Letter: Your vote helps us help children

Letter: Your vote helps us help children On behalf of Allen County Children Services, I would like to thank the public for approving our renewal levy on May 4. We appreciate the continued support and trust placed in us to protect our community’s most vulnerable children. The funding received from this levy is critical to support our mission of protecting children by strengthening families. The important work our agency accomplishes each day cannot be done without the community’s partnership. Thank you. Sarah Newland
