Police update: Fatal – Charges in Alice Springs
A 30-year-old man has been charged in relation to a fatal crash with a cyclist in Alice Springs at the weekend.
He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Alice Springs Local Court today charged with the following;
Dangerous Driving Causing Death
Possess Schedule 1 Dangerous Drug – Traffickable Quantity
Drive with Prohibited Drug in Body (Methamphetamine).
Police located an amount of drugs in close proximity to the crash site. The drugs were seized and will be forensically tested. It will be alleged that the man hid the drugs in the location immediately following the crash.

The driver allegedly responsible for the death of a cyclist in Alice Springs has been charged with a string of drugs offences, with police alleging he also tried to hide a stash of illicit narcotics immediately after the crash.

Tennant Creek electrical services company Ridem Pty Ltd (trading as Dexter Barnes Electrical) and company director Russell O’Donnell, have been handed a combined penalty of more than $160,000 after pleading guilty to charges relating to the death of a fourth year apprentice electrician.
The sentence was handed down yesterday in the Alice Springs Local Court.
The 34-year-old apprentice was electrocuted on 25 February 2019, while working unsupervised with another electrical apprentice on the roof of the Tennant Creek Fire Station.
Ridem Pty Ltd was convicted and fined $80,000 for failing to comply with its health and safety duties under Section 19(1) of the Work Health and Safety (National Uniform Legislation) Act 2011.

NT WorkSafe charged Dexter Barnes Electrical and director Russell O Donnell in 2019. On Thursday, Dexter Barnes Electrical and O Donnell were sentenced in Alice Springs Local Court after pleading guilty in December to failing to comply with a health safety duty. The court heard in February 2019, Mr Suratin and a third-year electrical apprentice were on the roof of the Tennant Creek Fire Station, working unsupervised on a livewire system. Mr Suratin was electrocuted after touching a live wire while alone in the roof.
