COLOMBO, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) Doctors in Sri Lanka have achieved a neurosurgery milestone by successfully performing the first awake craniotomy in the country, state media reported here Thursday.
Doctors at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital in the country s North Central Province successfully completed a surgical technique where a patient remains awake during the removal of a brain tumor on Dec. 1. The surgery was successful with no postoperative complications or neurological deficits. The patient is happy and grateful and about to go home, Dr. Nadhun Yohan Perera was quoted as saying in the state-owned Daily News.
