Lethbridge police are coming under fire again for officer misconduct, having suspended another service member over allegations of evidence mishandling.
The Lethbridge Police Service said during the course of another investigation of which there are multiple pending by Alberta’s police watchdog “information was received regarding the potential mishandling of possible evidence” by a Lethbridge officer.

Alberta’s Serious Incident Response Team has been directed to investigate the matter. The Lethbridge force is also conducting an internal misconduct investigation under the Police Act and police service regulation, which will be released after the ASIRT investigation is complete.
CALGARY A police officer with the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has been suspended in connection with an investigation conducted by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT). Officials say the development was the result of information that a police officer tampered with evidence in connection with a separate investigation. As provided by the Police Act, the provincial director of law enforcement has directed ASIRT to investigate the matter, the LPS said in a release. The service has also launched a professional misconduct investigation under the Police Act and Police Service Regulation. The police officer, who has not been named, has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.

The actions of a Lethbridge police officer are currently under investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT). On May, 11 the Director of Law Enforcement (DLE) was notified that information obtained during the course of an ongoing investigation had raised concerns regarding the handling of several items which may have been potential exhibits in that investigation by a member of the Lethbridge Police Service. ASIRT was directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the potential mishandling of the evidence by the officer.
According to a press release ASIRT’s investigation will examine the manner in which the potential exhibits were managed during the incident, and seek to determine whether the actions in question were lawful.

Investigation into death during contact with Lloydminster RCMP
On May 7, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) was directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a 26-year-old man who died while in the custody of the Lloydminster Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) that same day.

On that day at about 5:09 a.m., RCMP received a call reporting a disturbance at a residence in the 5200 block of 35 Street, in Lloydminster. It was reported that an intoxicated adult male was in possession of a machete and was causing a disturbance inside a residence. Two RCMP members responded to the location, and made contact with an adult occupant of the residence through an open window.
