Rev. Dr. Tyshawn Gardner Honored as Black History Maker of Alabama

Dr. Tyshawn Gardner currently serves as the Senior Pastor of the Plum Grove Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa. Dr. Gardner also serves as the Vice-President for Student Affairs at his beloved alma mater, the illustrious Stillman College. He is the founder and CEO of the Citizen Impacting Community Association, a non-profit dedicated to serving and empowering the intergenerational communities of West Tuscaloosa through a variety of academic and social programs and activities. From 2016-2019, Dr. Gardner served as the president of the Tuscaloosa Chapter of the SCLC.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Among those watching the historic inauguration of the nationâs first woman Vice-President this week were two longtime Birmingham friends.
Majella Chube Hamilton and Herschell Hamilton met Kamala Harris in the mid-80s when they were students at Howard University in Washington D.C.
Majella was president of the campus chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated when Harris was initiated into the sorority.
The Hamiltons say as is often the case at historically black colleges and universities, they, Harris, and others on campus developed a strong bond that has lasted for decades.

Vice President Kamala Harris now holds the second highest office in the country and is the first woman and person of color to hold the title. Community members say watching her take the oath was a powerful redefining moment in history.
Harris is known for her power moves as a former Senator and her power suits, pearls, and Chuck Taylors. Thousands of people across the country donned her signatures ensemble Wednesday to welcome her to the White House.
