UNEB rules out special exams for national team players April 16, 2021 UCE students sitting their exams recently There will be no special consideration for athletes who missed the recently concluded Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams while representing the country, the Education and Sports ministry has revealed. Several candidates on the Hippos U-20 and Cubs U-17 national teams missed their national transitional exams while representing Uganda at the African Cup of Nations in Mauritania and Morocco respectively. Some of the players who missed the exams include Alpha “Thierry” Ssali, a candidate at Kitante hill school, Travis Mutyaba, a candidate at St Mary’s College Kitende, Oscar Mawa of Gombe high school, Ivan Irinimbabazi from Royal Giants high school and Elvis Mwanje from Masaka SS. The players parents demanded that their children get special consideration to write their exams since they were on national duty.

Parents of those students and a number of Ugandans asked the government to give special exams to them arguing that they represented the country so well. However, the minister has told members on the Education committee chaired by Palisa county MP Jacob Opoloti that they have talked to different stakeholders in the education sector and have consulted UNEB on the same matter but it has declined to set special exams for these students saying it will set a very bad precedence. He also added that they have done their part as requested by parliament to see that those students be given special exams but they were not successful because UNEB declined.
