When it was released more than five years ago, the Aston Martin Lagonda Taraf attracted quite a bit of controversy because of its design lines, super-saloon claims, and (above all) hard-to-swallow pricing. Costing around one million dollars, it naturally set the bar quite high indeed. 30 photos
Some said it delivered, while others reckoned that one was better off shopping for something a little more traditional, like a Rolls-Royce. No matter the case, we know that Aston’s planned manufacturing quota of 200 examples never materialized, making it an interesting find whenever one pops up for sale.
In the late 2000s, Aston Martin decided that it wanted an ultra-luxury sedan to challenge the likes of Bentley, Maybach and Rolls-Royce. So, they revived the Lagonda sub-brand and greenlit the development of the Taraf.
The first real-life photos of the car were released in 2014, and it celebrated its public premiere at the Geneva Motor Show. Aston originally intended to limit the Lagonda Taraf to the Middle East, but rich clients living in the United States, Europe, Singapore and South Africa wanted to get their hands on one, and the automaker was happy to oblige.
A total of 200 units were supposed to see the light of day, at $1 million a pop, but Aston Martin ended the production after an estimated 120.
