87 families forced out of affordable housing units in South Austin
Residents were given less than thirty days to pack up and leave and are being told other affordable housing communities are at capacity.
AUSTIN, Texas - 87 households at the Rosemont at Oak Valley have received a letter from their property management company stating their leases will be terminated on July 31 because of natural disaster or catastrophe referencing February’s deadly winter storms.
The letter was distributed on Friday. Residents will not be able to contact property management until Tuesday because of the July 4th holiday.
A Williamson County judge granted a temporary restraining order on Thursday that requires the management at a low-income housing complex in Round Rock to continue paying for hotels for four tenants evicted from their freeze-damaged units.
Sandalwood Management, which runs the Townhomes at Double Creek on Louis Henna Boulevard in Round Rock, did not respond immediately to a request for comment on Thursday.
The management company issued seven-day eviction notices to residents of 44 units at the townhomes on April 1 saying the units were unusable.
The company also gave a seven-day notice to residents staying in hotels that the management company was no longer going to pay for their rooms. The deadly February Texas freeze caused the pipes to burst in the complex, damaging many units.

That was true for the Townhomes at Double Creek, a low-income housing complex where storm damage repairs forced residents to stay at hotels as they waited for the repairs to be completed.
Now, up to 44 families have received eviction notices this month due to the damage – all with about a week s notice. In the eviction notices, management also informed impacted residents that, after the seven days, they will not continue to pay for the hotels some tenants have been staying at.
