Springfield News-Leader
Missouri politicians are taking another shot at creating a statewide prescription drug tracking system aimed at curbing opioid abuse.
The latest plan from Sen. Holly Rehder, R-Sikeston, passed the Senate on a vote of 20-12 late Tuesday and headed to the House for further consideration.
If it succeeds there, the state would convene a special group of licensed health care providers, and that group would be charged with establishing the tracking system.
For years, politicians in both parties, along with health care providers like CoxHealth and local governments like Springfield’s, have said the system is needed to stop people from visiting multiple doctors to avoid limits on addictive prescription drugs.
