In case you missed it, 23-year-old Japanese-born tennis queen Naomi Osaka took the Olympic stage last night as the final torchbearer of the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. Taking to Instagram shortly after the historic moment, she said it was “undoubtedly the greatest athletic achievement and honour I will ever have in my life.”
“I have no words to describe the feelings I have right now but I do know I am currently filled with gratefulness and thankfulness.”

It is more likely than not now that Australia is heading back into recession through the second half of the year. This will look and feel very different to last year’s downturn. It will be less dramatic, though more protracted. Indeed, the downturn may well extend into next year.
Underpinning these forecasts is an expectation that South Australia and Victoria emerge from lockdown soon, and that Greater Sydney follows in the next couple of months.
The household savings ratio is also still more than twice pre-pandemic lows (11.6 per cent versus 5.4 per cent), hence there is a lot of dry powder. Moreover, with Q3 GDP now set to be a weak print, it should be arithmetically straight-forward for an improvement in Q4, or so the story goes.

Almost two-thirds of Queensland have recorded their lowest rental vacancy rates since 2010.
The vacancy rate for the majority of Queensland’s rental market reached new lows in the second quarter of 20201.
According to data for the June quarter shared by the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ), 22 out of 35 local government areas recorded or matched their lowest vacancy rate in the last eleven years.
In total, just five of these LGAs saw vacancy rates rise in the June quarter, while the rest either tightened or remained where they were.
