NSW government triples support for farmers battling mouse plague 09/06/2021|8min
The New South Wales government has announced it will top up its support package for farmers affected by the mouse plague with an additional $100 million.
Primary producers will be able to claim a 50 per cent rebate of up to $10,000 for zinc phosphide bait and the scheme will be backdated to purchases made since February 1.
NSW Agriculture Minister Adam Marshall told Sky News the tripling of the support was “reflective” of advice which suggests the plague “may well be still with us early into 2022”.
“We’re making this announcement today to try and get ahead of that, to ameliorate or reduce … some of those significant costs that are being borne by primary producers, in addition to the help that’s already been announced for households and small businesses in NSW”.
"The only good mouse is a dead mouse," Australia's deputy prime minister declared this week, as New South Wales stepped up its war on mice with a plan to poison the plague infesting large parts of the state.
