Commercial radio’s biggest shakeup in years: Previewing 2021’s breakfast selections
Ahead of the first radio ratings period of 2021 kicking off next week, Mumbrella s Zanda Wilson runs the rule over all the new and refreshed shows set to debut, and suggests what a successful year would look like for each offering.

After a few solid years of relatively stable breakfast offerings across most metro markets, 2021 is set to be a big refresh across Australian commercial radio, with new or refreshed lineups debuting in every city.
No less than eight new commercial breakfast shows will debut this year. Most are coming from Southern Cross Austereo (SCA), but there’ll also be new shows on Australian Radio Network (ARN) and Nine Radio.
It was listed as both the top publisher, as ranked by monthly downloads, and had its
Stuff You Should Know podcast back in the top spot.
November’s chart-topper,
Casefile True Crime, which is published by Audioboom but has sales representation conducted by iHeart, was down to the second spot.
iHeartPodcast had 329 active titles across the month, with 9,294,955 monthly downloads. Second-placed Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) and PodcastOne Australia had 386 titles, with 5,229,060 downloads. Audioboom climbed one spot with 248 podcasts, and 4,219,035 downloads.
There were some new titles in the ranking this month including
Something Was Wrong (#68) and
Le
Your Morning Mantra (#74) from Podshape.

Emotive continues to strengthen its team with key hires, as the creative agency announces Amanda Alegre as its new art director.
Following a number of significant hires across the back end of 2020, Alegre joins Emotive having recently spent over three years as creative/art director for The Monkeys.
Alegre is the new art director at Emotive
Alegre brings experience across strategy, creative and social to the new role, and will work out of the Emotive Beach House in Sydney.
