Picture: Highways England TRAFFIC chaos on the A12 lasted for hours after an overturned lorry spilled diesel onto the road before several vehicles got involved in an accident. Five-mile queues formed on the northbound carriageway after a lorry overturned during a crash yesterday at about 5am. The incident happened at junction 25 for Marks Tey next to the roundabout for the A120. Emergency services, including the police and paramedics were called to the scene. An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said an ambulance attended and one patient was taken to Colchester Hospital for further assessment and treatment.

The outgoing mayor of Great Dunmow Town Council has reflected on his year in office, and says he will be remembered as the Covid mayor .
Councillor Mike Coleman said he wanted to thank the team who had supported him including deputy Patrick Lavelle who has succeeded him as mayor, and Foakes House staff including the clerk and mayor s secretary.
He also thanked his wife Pauline Coleman, who got to wear her mayoress chains of office only once - when she assisted with the laying of the commemorative wreath in memory of Prince Philip.
A man was rushed to hospital following an accident while kite surfing near Southend. Southend Coastguard were called out to help the male around 4.30pm yesterday (Sunday, May 9) amid reports of a casualty near East Beach in Shoebury. The RNLI had used the hovercraft to rescue the man out at sea and bring him to shore safely. He was placed on a stretcher and carried back to a nearby road where he was left in the care of paramedics. The coastguard says the kite surfer suffered possible serious leg injuries. A spokesman added: The casualty was stabilised in the ambulance before transfer to hospital.

Police and the ambulance service - including the air ambulance - attended to the man, who sadly passed away

A man has sadly died after falling ill in Letchworth yesterday.
Police were called by the ambulance service at around 1.25pm on Sunday, May 9 to reports that a man had fallen ill in Nevells Road.
Road closures were in place as officers attended and provided initial medical assistance before the ambulance service - including the air ambulance - arrived.
