After 16 months bereft of facial expressions, the Institute of Contemporary Art s director Jill Medvedow looks forward to seeing visitors smiles again inside her museum s galleries. “The combination of art and people is powerful,” she said.
Medvedow and leaders from the Museum of Fine Arts and Isabella Stewart Gardner Museums have been coordinating throughout the pandemic to provide consistent messaging to their visitors. I think it s really important for us to be able to clearly communicate with our different and diverse publics what they can expect, Medvedow explained.
One of my first jobs was working in the fragrance department for a company called Aramis, which at the time encompassed perfumes from DKNY, Tory Burch and Michael Kors. My favorite scent to spray and show customers was always Love Relentlessly by Tory Burch. One of the events I selected for this weekend is an exhibit by the prominent designer herself, which will juxtapose museum artifacts from the Hancock Shaker Village that inspired her new line. Other events that’ll fill up your calendar on this long weekend are a painting workshop, a festival and a musical revue.

Over 30 years ago, at 1:24 am on March 18, 1990, two men dressed as police officers walked into the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. 81 minutes later they walked out with $200 million worth of artwork (now valued at $500 million). They forced the night guards into the basement, and duct-taped their hands, eyes, and ankles. The guards were not discovered until the new shift came to relieve them around 8 am. When the police examined the gallery, they noticed that the missing paintings had been cut from the frames, instead of carefully removed. None of the pieces have ever been recovered.
13 pieces were stolen from the museum. The value of the pieces makes this the biggest art theft in the history of the world. Click on any of the images below to see a larger version and learn more. The museum is offering $10 million in reward money for information leading to the recovery of the stolen items. If you have verifiable information about the location of any of these items, please contact th
The Crossing Releases New Film OBLIGATIONS
This is composer Paul Fowler s fourth work written for The Crossing.by BWW News Desk
GRAMMY-winning new-music choir The Crossing, led by Donald Nally, today releases a new 13-minute film Obligations, recorded at home by the artists in isolation. In-house sound designer Paul Vazquez worked with composer Paul Fowler to overlay over 300 sound files and text by Oglala Lakota poet Layli Long Soldier to bring to life Fowler s chamber-like, transparent score for 24 individual voices. Obligations completes a trilogy of pandemic-time collaborations with filmmaker Brett Snodgrass and serves as a transition from works produced in isolation to the return of live singing as The Crossing prepares for The Month of Moderns 2021, opening June 3 and running through June 19 - all in person outdoors in Pennsylvania.
