A canister containing the register was placed on the peak on Oct. 27, 2013, by Ojai Valley News senior reporter Perry Van Houten and hiking companion Bardley Smith. With the old trail long-abandoned, the pair used GPS data and satellite images to find the peak. Van Houten’s “Ojai Valley Hiking Trails” column, reprinted here from Nov. 20, 2013, describes the adventure.
