THUNDER BAY A Hamilton-based demolition company has purchased Ontario Power Generation s Thunder Bay Generating Station.
OPG has announced the sale of the decommissioned station to Budget Demolition.
The mothballing of the Mission Island power plant was announced in 2018.
When OPG put the plant and 54 acres of land up for sale, it said it would try to find a buyer whose plans for the site would create the maximum benefits to the community, including jobs and economic spinoffs.
The City of Thunder Bay had lobbied OPG to ensure the property was repurposed.
However, Wednesday s announcement did not indicate what plans Budget Demolition might have for the site.

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) has sold the Thunder Bay Generating Station.
The utility said the former hydro plant, shuttered in 2018, was purchased by Budget Demolition.
The plant was originally built in 1963, and was listed for sale in 2019 by a brokerage company. I am confident with OPG s decision to develop a business relationship with Budget Demolition, and I look forward to what the future of our former site will bring to the community of Thunder Bay and northern Ontario, said John Hefford, Vice President of OPG s Western Region, in a statement.
