Kerri Negley wins $522K hospital 50/50 draw

50/50 prize nears $400K, ace of spades still hidden in catch the ace draws

THUNDER BAY – Lottery fever is still pretty strong in Thunder Bay. The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation’s popular monthly Thunder Bay 50/50 draw is days away from awarding it’s fourth jackpot prize, which as of Monday morning is nearing $400,000. The United Way of Thunder Bay and Port Arthur Rotary’s Catch the Ace progressive jackpot continues to grow after eight drawings, standing at more than $8,000 and counting on Monday. Meanwhile, the Catch the Chippewa Ace jackpot has grown to more than $2,200 after seven drawings. Ticket sales for the hospital’s 50/50 draw wrap up at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, with the money being used to fund needed equipment.

Marion Drewes

Mrs. Marion Drewes, age 53 years, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2021 at her home with family by her side. Marion was the first New Year’s baby born at 1:48 a.m. on January 1st, 1968 in Port Arthur, Ontario. Marion worked at various office jobs until she started at Safeway Dawson Road in 1993 (until 2002). Marion always enjoyed working with and helping others, so she enrolled in massage therapy school (RMT). After graduation in 2000, she started her own business, Massage Mobility where she provided mobile care which included work-place massages and group homes for people who were not mobile. Massage Mobility was involved in the “CIBC Run-For-The-Cure” for many years.

Building our community

Gary Linquist believes in keeping it local. That’s why the owner of Wakefield Oil Change Plus donates a dollar from every oil change performed at his business to the Northern Cancer Fund, a part of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation. “If you’re getting an oil change, part of the proceeds are staying in the community,” says the business owner. Linquist chose the Northern Cancer Fund, which is dedicated to supporting cancer care in Northwestern Ontario, because it is a disease that affects so many of us. Linquist has lost family members to cancer, including his uncle, Bob Weatherbee, who was the previous owner of Wakefield Oil Change Plus.
