More than 3,000 health care workers to be vaccinated by next week

THUNDER BAY - An increase in the number of vaccines allocated to the district has meant thousands of frontline health care workers most at risk will be receiving the COVID-19 vaccine in the coming days.
“We are really pleased we had a significant increase in our vaccine allocation this week,” said Rhonda Crocker Ellacott, president and CEO of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

The coronavirus has claimed the 30th life in the Thunder Bay District.
The Health Unit is reporting 60 new cases, and another five people are now being treated at the Regional Hospital.
There are currently 350 active cases with 25 more having resolved since yesterday.
The breakdown of the new cases:
36 cases obtained from someone else who had the virus
Eight cases have no known exposure cause
14 are still being investigated to find out the cause
Two cases associated with the Thunder Bay District Jail Outbreak
In the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, 22 patients are being treated at the COVID-19 ward with as many as five in the Intensive Care Unit.
Thunder Bay regional hospital administration is preparing to ensure capacity is available to meet a potential surge in COVID-19 patients as the number of cases in the district continues to skyrocket.
Anyone 60 and older should be able to register for the vaccine by the first week of July, while essential workers will be able to register beginning in May.
