UPDATED: One more death in Thunder Bay area related to COVID-19

A resident of the Shuniah Street facility has passed away after contracting the virus. This is the 17th fatality connected to the outbreak at the 157-bed nursing home, all involving residents of the facility. A total of 19 people have succumbed to the virus across the district so far during the pandemic. THE TBDHU also reported one new COVID-19 case in the City of Thunder Bay or immediate surrounding area today. It said the person involved – a female under the age of 20 –  was a close contact of a previously-infected individual. Nine previously-diagnosed cases have now been resolved. That means the number of current active cases in its coverage area has fallen to 75.

NetNewsLedger 562 December 30, 2020 – The City’s Municipal Emergency Control Group (MECG) met today with community partners as part of its ongoing management of the COVID-19 situation. Discussion included the initial preparations in anticipation of a broadening of the vaccine rollout. As the city nears the end of the first week of a two-week, provincially mandated lockdown to January 9, the MECG wants to remind residents that all indoor events and gatherings are not permitted, except with members of the same household. The number of cases of COVID-19 in the city have levelled off. However the positivity rate on testing is at two percent this week, slightly up from last week when it was 1.5%.
