The number of cases linked to an outbreak on the Hatchet Lake Dene Nation has risen to 117, including 104 that are still considered active, Dr. Nnamdi Ndubuka, medical health officer with the Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority, told reporters on Wednesday.

Ndubuka noted Hatchet Bay is a fly-in community without a hospital, which means the three people who remain in hospital from the outbreak had to be flown to facilities elsewhere in the province.
An additional 13,042 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of vaccines administered in the province to 504,482.
The 13,042 doses of COVID-19 vaccine reported today were administered to residents living in the following zones: Far North West, 244; Far North Central, 7; Far North East, 181; North West, 514; North Central, 776; North East, 286; Saskatoon, 2,782; Central West, 138; Central East, 1,189; Regina, 4,245; South West, 506; South Central, 515; and South East, 1,242. There were 417 doses administered with zone of residence pending.
Almost 70 per cent (69.6 per cent) of those over the age of 40 have received their first dose. Fifty-eight per cent of those 30+ have received their first dose. A first batch of COVID-19 vaccinations has swept the far north east.
Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation (PBCN) Chief Peter Beatty said as of Tuesday, the First Nation was set to finish getting shots into members’ arms less than a week after receiving its first doses.

Despite a delay that concerned some leaders, “we’ve vaccinated as many people as we possibly could,” he said.
The region, which received 1,450 doses of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine late last week, is slated to use the entire batch in short order. As of Tuesday, 1,193 doses had been distributed in the far north east, according to the Ministry of Health.
