Knoxville Downtown Assessment Takes Place This Week

Knoxville’s downtown will be assessed this week by members of the Iowa Economic Development Authority Downtown Resource Center. Interim City Manager Heather Ussery says the assessment is an on-site study of the downtown, including a public presentation at the end of the visit and a written report that will help Knoxville administrators with planning efforts. “We’ll start on Tuesday. There will be five downtown specialists from the Iowa Economic Development Authority. They will start with a tour of the community and downtown. After that, they’ll have consecutive interviews with focus groups Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday, May 6th, there will be a public presentation at the Grand Theater at noon. That’s where the specialists will give their report to the community.”

Knoxville Council Approves Updated Fire/EMS Fees

The Knoxville City Council approved updated Fire/EMS fees at its meeting Monday. Interim City Manager Heather Ussery says these changes align with the increasing costs of providing these services. “Every year to two years, staff reviews the fees for doing the rescue service, as well as fire and hazardous materials to make sure we’re recouping the cost of doing the service. There were a couple of fees that needed to be adjusted: the standby fee and mileage charges. Those were the ones that were adjusted this time around.” Event standby is now $150 per hour, and mileage has been increased to $17 per mile. View the updated fees here.
