Pilot program could turn parking spots into outdoor seating at downtown coffee shop

A downtown coffee shop could be the site of a pilot program aimed at temporarily turning parking spots into outdoor seating.
The project, which would be in front of The Breaks Coffee Roasting Co. if approved at tomorrow s Sioux Falls City Council meeting, would create an extended furniture zone that would allow the store to place tables and chairs in two parking spots in front of the store until Oct. 31.
The store s owners had pitched a similar project in January that didn t pass, so when they reached out to Councilor Christine Erickson, she was excited to try to make it happen, she said.
