Three nonstop flights are coming to Indianapolis International Airport this summer.
Officials announced Thursday that American Airlines will offer a new flight to Orlando from IND starting June 5 “in response to increased leisure travel demand.”
The airline will also resume nonstop flights to Los Angeles in May and Boston in June. The route to Boston was halted after January 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic began to spread across the country.
A statement on the airport website said domestic flights are in demand as the pandemic s threat diminishes. Passenger traffic at the airport last year was 57% lower than 2019. That included a 56.5% decline in domestic passenger traffic and an 80.6% decline in international travelers.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) Bub’s Burgers and Ice Cream on Monday has more than 50 job openings.
The owner has signed an agreement to open a fifth location of the local restaurant at the Indianapolis International Airport. One of the holdups is getting people in the door to work.
Olivia is one of two servers working the noon rush at the Zionsville location of Bub’s Burgers. It is a constant hustle to keep up with the orders and customers. The owner of Bub’s needs about 50 more people like Olivia.
“Some servers over the weekend made on average $29 or $31 an hour serving tables. They work a five to six hour shift serving tables, that’s pretty good,” said Frey.
The move is part of the day s larger expansion, with nine new destinations and 18 fresh nonstop routes.
A third of those routes connect through the Gulf Coast, and many involve its home base of Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The scheduled start dates largely fall during the traditional snowbird season later this year, usually operating twice weekly.
The upcoming Fort Myers trips include a pair in Minnesota, Duluth and Rochester; and two in Wisconsin, Green Bay and Milwaukee, where Southwest Airlines currently flies.
Sun Country s now offering service to five locations in Southwest Florida, the other two being Sarasota–Bradenton International Airport and Tampa International Airport.

A giant plume of smoke took over the west side of Indianapolis on Friday as firefighters battled 80,000 tons of burning scrap metal and strong wind conditions for 13 hours at OmniSource Corporation, a recycling plant on South Holt Road.
Passersby watched as thick smoke stretched across two miles, thickly billowing 30-35 feet above the blaze. A shelter-in-place order, lasting at least five hours, asked nearby businesses and residents to stay indoors, turn off their air conditioners and close windows. Drivers were warned of limited visibility.
