INDIANAPOLIS - Residents held vigils here Saturday in memory of eight people gunned down late Thursday at a FedEx plant, as authorities said the 19-year-old gunman used two assault rifles to target his former workplace.

The suspect in a mass shooting at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis, Ind., used two assault rifles during the attack that he purchased legally, police said Saturday.
Brandon Scott Hole, 19, allegedly open fire on a Fedex facility late Thursday evening, resulting in the deaths of eight people. He was identified as the suspect by Friday afternoon.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department confirmed on Twitter that Hole was “witnessed using assault rifles in the assault.”

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) traced the two weapons, and found that Hole legally purchased them in July and September of 2020.

Starting on March 16, when eight people were killed at three Atlanta-area spas, the US has had at least 45 mass shootings, according to CNN reporting and an analysis of data from the Gun Violence Archive (GVA), local media, and police reports.
The US has seen at least 147 mass shootings in 2021, according to data from the GVA, a non-profit based in Washington.

President Joe Biden issued a national half-staff proclamation to honor the memory of those killed in the Indianapolis FedEx shooting.
The president issued the proclamation on Friday, April 16, after eight people were killed when a gunman opened fire inside the facility on Thursday evening.
Those killed were later identified as Matthew R. Alexander, 32; Samaria Blackwell, 19; Amarjeet Johal, 66; Jasvinder Kaur, 64; Jaswinder Singh, 68; Amarjit Sekhon, 48; Karlie Smith, 19 and John Weisert, 74. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department released the details on Friday evening.

Following the mass shooting, President Biden said flags would fly at half-staff through to sunset on Tuesday, April 20. It is the fourth time in five weeks that the flag has been lowered to half staff.
