Joe Hogsett News Today

A new animal shelter is in the making for Indianapolis Animal Care Services. IACS and Mayor Joe Hogsett broke ground Monday on the new facility.

Chief Chris Bailey of Indianapolis Metropolitan says Toler was dedicated to strong police community relations.

The city is spending around $2 million on the project that will include a pedestrian walkway and underground stormwater drainage.

The Hogsett administration wants to replace the original professional sports development area that the City-County Council approved last year with one that is focused near the Indianapolis Downtown Heliport. The City-County Council will vote on the second plan Monday night.

A lot still hangs in the balance even if the Indianapolis City-County Council approves a special tax district for a soccer stadium on Monday.

The roundabout will include pedestrian facilities along the south side of the intersection. Stormwater improvements also will be made.

The council's Rules and Public Policy Committee voted in favor of advancing Mayor Joe Hogsett's proposal for a brand new soccer stadium at the current site of the Indianapolis Heliport with the intent of attracting an MLS expansion franchise to the city.

After a three-hour meeting in a room packed with supporters of the Indy Eleven, a City-County Council committee on Tuesday narrowly advanced a proposal for a taxing district on the east side of downtown to support a potential Major League Soccer stadium.

The mayor's plan to build a soccer-specific stadium downtown is quickly gaining the approval of the City-County Council.
