Indianapolis mass shooting suspect identified as former employee

The man who police say was responsible for the overnight mass shooting at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis, Indiana, that killed eight people Thursday was a former employee. The shooter was identified as 19-year-old Brandon Scott Hole of Indiana, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police deputy chief Craig McCartt announced Friday. Hole was a former employee who last worked at that FedEx facility in 2020, McCartt said. Investigators searched a home in Indianapolis associated with Hole and seized evidence, including desktop computers and other electronic media, the officials said. The officials spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the matter.

The shooting suspect has been identified as Brandon Hole, 19 years old, according to law-enforcement officials. Mr. Hole was a former employee of FedEx, and his employment ended in 2020, police said. Around 11 p.m. Thursday, the suspect arrived at the FedEx Ground facility s parking lot, got out of his car and started shooting at people, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Deputy Chief Craig McCartt said at a news conference Friday morning. The man then entered the building, shooting at more people before killing himself.

Originally published April 16, 2021 in  After one of the worst workplace shootings in Indiana and the third mass shooting in Indianapolis this year, lawmakers are sending their condolences and pushing for conversations about how to address gun violence.  Late Thursday night, a mass shooting at the FedEx Ground Plainfield Operations Center near the Indianapolis International Airport left eight people murdered, several injured and the suspected gunman dead by suicide. Five employees were transported to the hospital with injuries.  FedEx employees are not allowed to have their phones with them while working, so many could not call for help or let their families know they were OK. Family waited to hear if their loved ones were alive from a Holiday Inn Express nearby.
