Air pollution linked to high blood pressure, heart diseases in children; study addresses

Air pollution linked to high blood pressure, heart diseases in children; study addresses ANI | Updated: May 05, 2021 09:39 IST Washington [US], May 5 (ANI): A meta-analysis of 14 air pollution studies from around the world found that exposure to high levels of air pollutants during childhood increases the likelihood of high blood pressure in children and adolescents, and their risk for high blood pressure as adults, a new study finds. The findings are published in a special issue on air pollution in the Journal of the American Heart Association, an open-access journal of the American Heart Association. Other studies look at: the effects of diesel exhaust on the muscle sympathetic nerve; the impact of pollutants on high blood pressure; rates of hospital readmission for heart failure among those exposed to high levels of ambient air pollution; and risk of stroke and heart attack after long-term exposure to high levels of particulate matter.

Air pollution linked to high blood pressure in children; other studies address air quality and heart

Date Time Share American Heart Association Research Highlights: A meta-analysis of 14 air pollution studies from around the world found that exposure to high levels of air pollutants during childhood increases the likelihood of high blood pressure in children and adolescents, and the risk of hypertension later in life. A special publication on air pollution features several studies focused on the relationship between ambient air pollution with cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension. Other studies cover exposure to diesel exhaust, ambient air pollution and particulate matter and how it affects blood pressure, heart failure admissions and risk of stroke and heart attack.

Air pollution puts children as young as FIVE at greater risk of high blood pressure

Some are visible, such as dust, whereas others cannot be seen by the naked eye.  Materials such as metals, microplastics, soil and chemicals can be in particulate matter. Particulate matter (or PM) is described in micrometres. The two main ones mentioned in reports and studies are PM10 (less than 10 micrometres) and PM2.5 (less than 2.5 micrometres). Air pollution comes from burning fossil fuels, cars, cement making and agriculture  Scientists measure the rate of particulates in the air by cubic metre. Particulate matter is sent into the air by a number of processes including burning fossil fuels, driving cars and steel making.

Entresto Falls in PARADISE-MI; Old Biomarkers, New Tricks; DeepFake ECGs

Forbes) Heart attack survivors saw no reduction in cardiovascular death and heart failure using sacubitril/valsartan (Entresto) compared with ramipril, Novartis said. More details on the PARADISE-MI trial are to be announced at the American College of Cardiology meeting later this month. ( FiercePharma) Switching to high-sensitivity cardiac troponin testing in the emergency department was associated with more findings of myocardial injury and MI, but no overall increase in resource use (except angiography), a health system found in its Wisconsin hospitals. ( Journal of the American College of Cardiology) Meanwhile, Roche listed new ways to use its cardiac troponin T and N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide tests in identifying a person s cardiovascular risk.

Early exposure to air pollutants linked to high blood pressure in children, adolescents

Early exposure to air pollutants linked to high blood pressure in children, adolescents A meta-analysis of 14 air pollution studies from around the world found that exposure to high levels of air pollutants during childhood increases the likelihood of high blood pressure in children and adolescents, and their risk for high blood pressure as adults. The studies include health outcomes of people who were exposed to pollutants in the United States, China and Europe.
