The proposed European Super League (ESL) – a breakaway tournament meant to be contested with 20 European clubs annually (with 15 founding members)- collapsed in just 48 hours. The Super League was established on 18 April 2021 with 12 clubs – Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs (England), Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid (Spain) and AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus (Italy) – as its original founding members. In the ESL, 20 teams were to be a part of competition. 2 groups of 10 teams would play home and away. The top three teams at the end of the first round would automatically qualify for the quarter-finals. The fourth and fifth-place teams would then face each other in a play-off match for the two remaining places in the quarter-finals.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is to be investigated by Uefa over an alleged financial interest in a betting company .
Uefa s disciplinary regulations state players should not have a financial interest in betting.
Last week he signed a new contract that will run until after his 40th birthday. A Uefa ethics and disciplinary inspector has today been appointed to conduct a disciplinary investigation regarding a potential violation of the Uefa disciplinary regulations by Mr Zlatan Ibrahimovic for having an alleged financial interest in a betting company, a Uefa statement said.
That includes Milan and Inter, but Serie A champions Juventus are yet to formally quit the controversial competition.
BBC are reporting that the FIGC have now introduced a rule that means any team who takes part in a competition such as the Super League will no longer be allowed to compete in the Italian top flight.
It means that Juventus have until 21 June to officially pull out - or they could risk being kicked out of Serie A in 2021/22.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku were handed small fines by the Italian Football Federation on Monday for their part in an on-field altercation during an Italian Cup tie in January.
AC Milan forward Ibrahimovic taunted Inter Milan striker Lukaku during the local derby quarter-final by evoking voodooism before the pair went head-to-head, trading insults with a furious Lukaku needing to be restrained by his teammates.
“A fine of 4,000 euros for Ibrahimovic, 3,000 euros for Lukaku, 2,000 euros for Milan and 1,250 euros for Inter,” FIGC said in a statement.
