Researchers discover new binding sites for active agents on cell cytoskeleton

Researchers discover new binding sites for active agents on cell cytoskeleton Through a unique combination of computer simulations and laboratory experiments, researchers at the Paul Scherrer Institute PSI have discovered new binding sites for active agents - against cancer, for example - on a vital protein of the cell cytoskeleton. Eleven of the sites hadn t been known before. The study appears today in the journal Angewandte Chemie International Edition. The protein tubulin is an essential building block of the so-called cell cytoskeleton. In cells, tubulin molecules arrange themselves into tube-like structures, the microtubule filaments. These give cells their shape, aid in transporting proteins and larger cellular components, and play a crucial role in cell division.

Alessandro Volta should champion Italian innovation

Alessandro Volta should champion Italian innovation The Italian Institute of Technology is a driver of technological innovation. Director Metta says in an interview with IO that he aims to create an Italian Fraunhofer. 20 April 2021 Giorgio Metta © Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia Giorgio Metta is scientific director of the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), the Italian counterpart of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The institute has a multidisciplinary approach and is particularly strong in technology transfer. Metta (51), an electrical engineer who graduated from the University of Genoa (from which he also received his PhD), is considered to be the father of the iCub. This is a humanoid robot designed by several different European universities with the aim of conducting research on human cognition and artificial intelligence.
