While Assam’s neighbours were on their toes on Monday to thwart possible infiltration of people who were left out of the NRC final draft, a prominent students’ body of the region called for extending the citizens’ register to the other Northeastern states.
The final draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) was released in Assam on Monday.
Lauding the Assam government for its achievement in preparing the draft NRC, the Northeast Students’ Organisation (NESO), an umbrella body of students of all the Northeastern states, demanded that the exercise be extended to the other states in the region as well as they too faced the illegal immigration problem.
3 dead, 1 injured in Gurgaon building collapse PTI
Chandigarh: Three people died and one person was injured in the three-storey building collapse incident in Khawaspur in Haryana’s Gurgaon district, police said Monday after a 20-hour operation, amid heavy rains, to rescue those stuck under its debris. The building collapsed Sunday night and initially, it was feared that five to six people were trapped under the rubble, a senior police officer said. But after verification, it turned out that there were four people who were trapped. One body was pulled out from the debris Sunday night and two more Monday.
The building was located on the Pataudi road in Farrukhnagar in Gurgaon, and according to Manesar Deputy Commissioner of Police Varun Singla, a warehouse company had built it to house labourers. The rescue operation was launched around 8.00pm Sunday, and the injured person was rescued on that day, police said.

Additional SP Brijesh Sood, who was temporarily posted at the police headquarters here after a scuffle outside the Bhuntar airport in Kullu on June 23, has been reinstated as Additional SP, Chief Minister’s security.
A notification issued on Friday said Sood would resume his duty as Additional SP, Chief Minister’s security, relieving Puneet Raghu, Additional SP, 3rd Indian Reserve Battalion, Pandoh, of the charge with immediate effect.
A video of Kullu SP Gaurav Singh slapping Sood and Chief Minister’s PSO Balwant Singh kicking the SP in retaliation during the visit of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on June 23 had gone viral. Assam Assembly Deputy Speaker Aminul Haque Laskar has been quizzed twice and five police personnel attached to him have been suspended after they opened fire on public during second phase of polling, officials said today.
At least three people were injured in the firing by the body guards of Mr Laskar on April 1 after clashes broke out between supporters of BJP and AIUDF inside the polling station at 463 Madhya Dhanehori LP School of Sonai constituency.
Police sources said Mr Laskar was interrogated twice for several hours during the last 48 hours and his statements have been recorded in front of a magistrate.
