Animals Contracting COVID-19: Two lionesses have tested COVID positive at Etawah Safari Park, Uttar Pradesh. The park s director said that both the animals have been kept in isolation. Dr KP Singh, the Joint Director of Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), said that the chain of transmission of the virus could have taken place through any asymptomatic human carrier, probably caretakers, working at the park. The safari park has already been shut to the public.

Earlier this week, eight Asiatic lions housed in the Nehru Zoological Park have tested positive for Covid.
Two lionesses have tested positive for Covid-19 at Etawah Safari Park in Uttar Pradesh, the authorities confirmed on Friday.
A statement issued by the office of Director of Etawah Safari stated that the two lionesses have tested positive for coronavirus and their treatment has begun as advised by experts.
However, the condition of both animals was stable as of 7pm yesterday.
According to Etawah Lion Safari authorities, around 9-year-old Lioness Jennifer and around 4-year-old Gauri were found in high temperatures with 104 to 105 degrees Celsius on April 30.

Lucknow, May 8 : After eight Asiatic lions had tested positive for Covid-19 at Hyderabad zoo, two lionesses have tested positive at Etawah Lion Safari in Uttar Pradesh. Both the big cats Gauri and Jennifer have been placed in isolation. According to the safari administration, the condition of both lionesses is reportedly stable. Etawah Lion Safari Director K.K Singh said both the lionesses had been suffering from fever since April 30.
Blood and faeces samples of both the lionesses were sent for examination to the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Bareilly on May 3. On May 6 evening, both lionesses were confirmed to have contracted Covid-19.
