Covid-19: India records 38,949 fresh cases

India recorded 38,949 new Covid-19 cases, which took the infection tally to 31,026,829, while the death toll reached 412,531 with 542 more fatalities, according to Union health ministry data updated on Friday
The active cases have declined to 430,422 and comprise 1.39 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate stands at 97.28 per cent, the data updated at 8 am showed.

New Delhi: A study conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on variants responsible for the second wave of COVID-19 has revealed that the major strain responsible for the breakthrough is the Delta variant.
As per the WHO classification, the Delta variant has been designated as a variant of concern due to increased transmission and higher immune evasion, whereas the other two sub lineages of B.1.617 namely B.1.617.1 and B.1.617.3 with E484Q are grouped in VUI[25].

The Ministry further informed that the active infections now constitute 1.36 per cent of the total cases.
The daily positivity rate is at 2.13 per cent and the weekly positivity rate is currently at 2.08 per cent.
The country also recorded 518 coronavirus-related fatalities and 42,004 recoveries between Saturday and Sunday morning. With this, the death toll has increased to 4,13,609, while the total number of recoveries has jumped to 3,02,69,796.

The active cases have declined to 4,22,660 and comprise 1.36 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate stands at 97.31 per cent, the data updated at 8 am showed.
It said that active Covid-19 cases have decreased by 1,365 in a span of 24 hours.
The ministry said that 19,36,709 tests were conducted on Saturday, taking the total cumulative tests conducted for detection of Covid-19 in the country to 44,39,58,663.
