RAJKOT: The rapid response (RR) cell of Rajkot range police arrested a truck driver at Wankaner boundary on Rajkot-Ahmedabad highway for ferrying Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 24.6 lakh on Friday night.
Police officials said that they had been on the lookout for such illegal activities on the highway at Wankaner boundary and when the truck arrived at the check-post with a suspicious container cops stopped it for checking. They found boxes containing 6,468 liquor bottles.
The driver of the truck Raghuvir Singh Rameshwarlal could not produce any license for the liquor stock and admitted that it was illicit liquor.

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh has made it mandatory to obtain licence to keep liquor more than the prescribed limit at home.
This has been one of the highlights of the new liquor policy approved by Yogi Adtiyanath cabinet through circulation here on late Friday night.
In UP, one is permitted to store 1.5 litres of each country-made and Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) liquor and four bottles of beer. Now, if anyone wants to store liquor more than the prescribed limit, a licence would have to be secured from the state excise department.
According to excise officials, a licence shall be issued for purchase, transport, and possess stocks in excess of the prescribed retail sale limit to individuals, on payment of Rs 12,000 as licence fee and a security amount of Rs 51,000 per year subject to the conditions prescribed.

Shops selling Indian Made Foreign Liquor are usually allowed to function till 11 pm and the extension by an hour has been given in view of the new year celebrations.

HYDERABAD: Liquor shops will remain open till midnight on Thursday in Telangana in view of new year eve celebrations, the state Prohibition and Excise Department said.
Shops selling Indian Made Foreign Liquor are usually allowed to function till 11 pm and the extension by an hour has been given in view of the new year celebrations.
Permission was also accorded to the licence holders of bars, event organisers and In-House licences of Tourism Development Corporation to serve liquor up to 1 am, on the intervening night of December 31 and January 1, it said.

UDUPI: The district administration has made all arrangements to facilitate smooth counting of votes for gram panchayats in two phases – on December 22 and 27 – at seven counting centres in as many taluks in the district on Wednesday.
Counting will start at 8am and only the candidate or his/her agent will be allowed entry in to counting centre, said deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha.
In all, voting was held for 863 wards in the seven taluks in 1136 polling booths. A total of 284 tables have been arranged in these counting centres and 948 personnel deputed for the smooth conduct of the counting process. The process of randomisation of the personnel on counting duty will be carried out at 7am on Wednesday and announced at the counting centre. This is being done to ensure fairness of the counting process.
